In 1968, a friendship was forged between two men with different backgrounds but similar values. Frank Catalfino, a barber by trade, met Vincent Pecora, a drummer and record producer. The two quickly became good friends. Over the years, sitting in the barber's chair, and in each other's homes, these men formed a dream of owning a business...a restaurant to call their own. In the winter of 1974, the dream became a reality. On January 4, 1974, the two opened "Frank and Vic's Pizza". It was nestled in the small community of Walnut Heights on the East Side of Columbus. With one oven, a handful of recipes, a carryout window, and two tables in the lobby, these friends quickly developed a loyal customer following. The success was built on a reputation of serving quality food in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Their daily work was often performed with their families at their side. One year later, the two expanded their business by transforming a vacant beauty salon next door into a dining room. From there, the restaurants success took off. In the summer of 1976, the good times were interrupted by personal tragedy. Vincent Pecora died of cancer. Though it was difficult without his best friend at his side, Frank, with his wife, Dolores, carried on the restaurant. In the years to come, "Frank's Pizza" became a neighborhood institution. It was the most popular place to gather after the little league games...Frank even lent his name as a sponsor to the teams for which his children played. The pizza parlor also became THE place to be on Friday nights, after the local high school football games. In March 1988, another catastrophe struck the restaurant. An electrical fire swept through the kitchen, destroying 14 years of hard work. Not to be knocked down for long, Frank rebuilt his restaurant, opening four months later under the new name, "Frank's Place". As times change, so does the need to expand your life's work. In October of 1995, Frank made the decision to leave the place that held so many memories...for a new location at Refugee and Gender. In April of 1996, "Catalfino's Pizza & Pub" was born. This time, Frank and Dolores were joined by a new partner - their son, James. After 12 successful years there, the family realized a new vision for the business and decided to relocate once again to the current location. The team now consists of Frank, Dolores, Jim and his wife, Marie, along with a team of dedicated employees. Though the restaurant is in a new neighborhood with a new look, one thing remains the same-the quality food and the family atmosphere. From the moment you walk in our doors, you should know that you're among friends. On any night, you will see members of the Catalfino family working along side new friends, serving the same great food. It is truly a time to sit back, relax and enjoy the company.
